Let families know whether your program is open or closed. Complete a short survey in your Great Start to Quality profile. View results to see how many programs are open.

About

The Great Start to Quality Child Care Status Survey is asking all licensed programs to share whether their program is open, planning to re-open, or currently closed. The current response rate is 72%.  Of the programs that have responded, 48% are open and 52% are still temporarily closed statewide.

Trends:

  • Survey results indicate 2,917 licensed child care providers throughout Michigan remain open or have re-opened, and they have the licensed capacity to serve up to 82,925 children, though social distancing precautions may mean fewer slots are available. A total of 3,193 licensed child care providers remain temporarily closed. Parents and families can search www.greatstarttoquality.org 24/7 to find out which child care programs are open or closed in their community.
  • Home-based providers are more likely to be currently open than centers - 66% of licensed homes providers are open versus 26% of centers
  • Only 2 counties, Baraga and Lake, have not yet completed the survey. See detailed data below for 81 of 83 counties in Michigan.

Many programs reported their status in May or June, and we have not yet heard from all programs statewide. Please help us increase participation in this survey by encouraging child care programs to visit Great Start to Quality or if your status has changed, you can easily update your program’s Great Start to Quality profile at any time online or by contacting your local Great Start to Quality Resource Center by calling 1-877-614-7328.
