Child Care Providers-You have been hit hard during this pandemic and we hear you!  Rating extensions and supports are now available.  Learn more!

Getting Started

Once the rating process is complete:

  • The program will receive its published rating that appears on Great Start to Quality when families search for care.
    • This rating is good for two years from the date the program receives a published rating.
  • If the program has made changes to improve your quality, it may apply for a new rating prior to the two-year anniversary date.

Benefits of Having a Star Rating

Free Quality Improvement Consultation

Great Start to Quality offers free consultation from a Quality Improvement Consultant(QIC) at the local Great Start Quality Resource Center.  Once the program completes the validation or assessment, a QIC will contact the program to support next steps to improving quality.

Star Rated Stipend

If one works in a program or operates a home-based child care that is Star rated through Great Start to Quality, the employee and the employer may be eligible to receive an additional $150 stipend on each semester of the T.E.A.C.H. CDA, Associates Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or Master’s Degree scholarship.  To learn more about T.E.A.C.H visit the MiAEYC website.

Child Development and Care Program

Michigan's Child Development and Care (CDC) program provides supplemental child care payments allowing low-income parents to work. The subsidy can be used for regulated child care in a licensed center, group child care home, family child care home or license exempt care in the home of a relative or by an adult in the child's home.  Learn more about what providers need to know about the program.
